The Life of a Fantasy and NFL Analyst

It’s not always easy to do this job. You would think that the life of being a Fantasy Football and NFL Analyst would be all roses and smiles, but you know, even the best of us who get the privilege of having this be our jobs have those times when we wonder if we can get anything right.

For example, my NFL game picks this year have been amongst the WORST I’ve ever had, going back to the days when I was 10 and would poll my mother, father, brother, and sister each week to make picks and keep track of them. My woes with picking games in 2010 are well documented in my fantasy football blog. My goal every year is to get 180 or more correct. With 256 total games, that means I can only get a grand total of 76 games wrong over 17 weeks. This year, after week 11 or so, my goal switched to not having 100 or more wrong. It’s just been miserable.

While in my fantasy football predictions, there are plenty of times when I have whiffed totally on players. I was slow to believe in Brandon Lloyd and Michael Vick. It’s great to know I was right on guys like Phillip Rivers and Arian Foster, but that’s the way every season goes: hit some, miss some. But when you are considered the fantasy football “expert” (and for years I have not accepted that term instead preferring the term fantasy football “analyst”) you’re expected to hit and the misses you will be held accountable for. So for anyone who thinks it’s easy to be a fantasy football analyst, I encourage you to read a recent article I wrote about what you need to be a fantasy sports expert.

But I have to say, just like with everything in life, there are highs and lows in this career. But even though it does have some lows, it’s an incredible job and there are precious few other things I could do with my life that would be better. I get to write fantasy football advice, give out detailed analysis of games and matchups, and even write the occasional letter to Santa Claus asking him to grant my Fantasy Football Christmas Wish of a fantasy championship. There are some lows, but the highs are so much better.
