Entering the 2011 NFL season statistical projections were showing an increase of production in the passing game mostly based off of historical data and league trends. This was good news for the fans getting increased action with more scoring and so on. This was also great news for the Fantasy Football enthusiast using the philosophy of try to build a solid core of Running-backs and Wide-receivers first believing that there will still be a good chance at a 4000 yard 28-30 TD Quarter-Back later. A game plan I was comfortable with figuring some would be going after the Big Named Quarter-backs early. Having the fourth pick and Aaron Rodgers staring me right in the face, as much as I was compelled, I just could not pull the trigger with Adrian Peterson also sitting there. I did say ‘try to establish a solid core of RB’s and WR’s first so what better place to start then ‘All-Day’. Round Seven came along with Eli Manning and Joe Flacco the two highest tiered of the remaining QB’s still on the board, I selected Eli though Flacco was also in my Four thousand yard 28-30 Touch-down range. With Eli performing above expectations and Flacco a slight bit below as my projections were based off of progress last the three years; 2008,09,10
Joe; 3 Year (48 Games) Per Game stat average; 212 yards – 1.25 TD’s – .7 INT’.
2011 ( 9 games) per game averages; 256 yards – 1.1 TD’s – .7 INT’s .
A mid-term showing an increase in Yardage, a little short on the TD’s and spot on the INT mark. It seems evident Joe will hold true to his stat line which can only mean the ‘law of averages’ will kick in so expect Joe to pick up on the TD’s in the next few weeks and with good match-ups during most Fantasy playoff weeks 14,15, 16 facing the Colts, Chargers and Browns there could be worse options.
Eli; 3 year (48 games) average; 234 ypg – 1.6 TD’s – 1.0 INT
2011 ( 9 games ) 298 ypg – 1.8 TD’s – .8 INT’s
Clearly outperforming his projection Eli has been known to start strong then taper off if not totally ruin a good playoff run. Once again the laws of averages could play a role as Eli is looking at couple tough matchups in week 14 at Dallas and 16 v JETS with another divisional game against WAS. If you’re trusting Eli to lead your Fantasy football squad into the Post season you could be in for another letdown.
